It was winters of 2019 and again our group of three friends were ready for another trek. This time its Achala Fort. As per the pIan I had to be ready by 4:30 am. Next morning I woke up around 3:45 am, and got ready by 4:20 am. This time I made French toast for breakfast. I carried around 1 ltr of water with me. By 4:35am my friend came to receive me. This time we had decided to meet at Thakkar bazar bus stop( New CBS), so we went there to pick our third friend. Before we reached our friend was already present at meeting point. We had tea, discussed our route and plan for trek and we left for Achala Fort by 5:10am. We were travelling by private car. It was around 58 km from Nashik city so it took us around 1hr 30mins to reach Achala pimpri village which is located at the base of Achala fort. We parked our car at the base village and started searching for a guide as route was new and unknown for us. We managed to convince one guy from village to come with us. It was very cold morning but enthusiasm and high energy level hardly made us feel the cold this spirit gave a good start to the trek. Difficulty level of the trek is medium but very much tiring. I suggest to carry around 2 ltr of water to keep you hydrated.
Location
Achala/Achla fort is situated in westernmost side of Satmala hill range, 58 kms from Nashik city near Achala pimpri village, Dist. Nashik, Maharashtra.
Height Of fort : 4038 Feet from sea level.
History
In 1636 this fort was under the control of Adilshah. Later it was conquered by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. In 1670 Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj won the fort from Mughals. In 1818 the fort was surrendered to Colonel Briggs under British Rule.
How to Reach
Vani- Dagad Pimpri village:
From Nashik reach Vani. From Vani take Saputara road and reach Achala Pimpri phata and take right to reach Dagad Pimpri village.
Private car is convenient option. Saves time.
Public transport is also available.
You can hire a guide at the Achala Pimpri fort base.
Carry drinking water and packed food as no facility is available at fort or at near by place.
Note : Its our duty to keep our mother earth clean. Please do not litter such heritage places by throwing garbage carried with you. Collect all waste in garbage bag and dispose it in correct manner.
Its a one day return trip as no stay facility is available at fort. You may arrange a facility to stay in village with permission of native people.
